Privacy Policy

Privacy on drift is designed to support safety, transparency, and better ride matching in college communities. This Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control your information.

Last updated: 8 August 2026

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to drift web and mobile applications, related support channels, and operational systems.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use drift, we may collect:

  • Account data: name, email, username, phone, profile details
  • College context data: university/college association and related verification signals
  • Ride and booking data: origin, destination, timing, seats, fare details, booking status
  • Support and safety data: tickets, messages, moderation and audit records
  • Device/app data: basic diagnostics, usage events, and security logs
  • Location data (when enabled): coarse or precise coordinates from your device/browser permissions
  • Consent records: timestamps and version of Terms/Privacy/age acceptance, optional promotional push, peer WhatsApp sharing, and analytics preferences
  • Website contact form: name, email, and message you submit (stored on our systems for operations — not sold)

3. Why We Use Your Information

We use data to operate and improve drift, including to:

  • Create and secure user accounts
  • Match riders with relevant routes and student communities
  • Support bookings, ride coordination, and status notifications
  • Prevent abuse, detect fraud, and enforce community standards
  • Resolve support requests and safety incidents
  • Analyze platform quality and improve reliability
  • Send optional product updates via push only if you opt in (you can withdraw anytime in Profile)

4. Location Data

Location is used when you choose to search nearby rides or set ride pickup and drop-off points. Coordinates for rides you create or book are stored as part of that ride record.

drift does not continuously track your device location in the background for admin monitoring.

You remain in control: location collection depends on browser/device permission settings, and can be turned off by updating those settings.

5. College-Specific Relevance

drift is designed for college communities. We use college-context data to improve relevance and trust so users can see rides that match their university ecosystem rather than broad, unrelated public listings.

6. Sharing of Information

We may share limited data with:

  • Other users as necessary for ride coordination (for example, profile and ride details). If you opt in under Consent Manager, your WhatsApp number may be shown to confirmed co-travelers on shared rides for coordination only; you can withdraw anytime.
  • Service providers that help us operate infrastructure, maps, storage, analytics, and support workflows
  • Legal or safety authorities when required by law or to protect users and the platform

We do not sell personal data as a core business model.

7. Data Retention

We retain data for as long as needed to provide services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce platform policies.

When you delete your account, we deactivate it immediately and retain identifying personal data for 7 days so we can respond to safety reports or legal follow-up. After that period (unless a legal hold applies), we anonymize fields such as name, email, phone, and WhatsApp number. Historical ride and booking rows may remain linked to an anonymized account for integrity.

8. Security Measures

drift uses reasonable technical and organizational controls to protect account and platform data, including access controls, authentication mechanisms, and operational monitoring.

No system is absolutely risk-free, but we continuously improve safeguards as the product evolves.

9. Cookies and analytics

Essential cookies keep you signed in and secure the session. These are required for the service to work.

Optional analytics (such as Vercel Analytics) help us understand how the site is used. They load only if you accept analytics on the consent bar or enable Product analytics in Profile → Consent Manager. You can reject or withdraw anytime.

10. Your Choices and Controls

You can generally:

  • Update profile/account information
  • Manage consents in Profile → Consent Manager (platform terms, promotional push, WhatsApp sharing with ride peers, and product analytics)
  • Download a copy of your data from Profile → Consent Manager
  • Control location permissions at browser/device level
  • Delete your account (7-day retention, then anonymization)
  • Contact support or our Grievance Officer regarding account and data concerns

11. Children and Age Restrictions

drift is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We ask you to confirm your age when creating an account. If we learn of unauthorized underage use, we may restrict or remove access.

12. Policy Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect product improvements, legal requirements, or operational changes. The latest version will always be published on this page.

13. Contact and Grievance

For privacy questions, use in-app support or the website contact form. Website contact messages are stored so our team can respond; they are not sold.

For formal grievances under applicable Indian intermediary rules, see our Grievance redressal page (Grievance Officer: Satyarth, satyarth@alancoresystems.in).
